The Social and Emotional Needs of the Gifted
PRESENTATION
Gifted children not only think differently; because of their thinking, gifted children feel differently, as well. Thinking and feelings impact upon emotional wellbeing, social relationships, and learning. These characteristics and associated patterns of behaviour are important. Understanding the characteristics of gifted youth is critical if we are to know how to support their social and emotional needs while providing intellectual and academic challenges that are appropriate for the gifted.
PRESENTER
Michele Juratowitch is Director of Clearing Skies, providing a range of services including counselling, parent education, advocacy, consultancy, professional development, research, and resources to support the needs of gifted children, adolescents, their parents, teachers, organisations, and institutions. Michele was awarded a Churchill Fellowship, lectured in postgraduate courses at GERRIC, UNSW, where she also participated in a range of programmes for gifted students, their parents, and teachers. Michele is a frequent presenter at schools, and conferences.
